Overview

Instead of heading straight for the famous sandbank, the boat runs along the coast of Cotubanamá National Park and stops at Mano Juan, a car-free fishing village of about 300 people, before continuing to Canto de la Playa and the natural pools. SeavisTours runs it in German, English and Dutch with a guide throughout.

The day is built around variety. There is a village walk with a visit to a sea turtle project, a beach lunch of chicken, fried fish, rice, beans, salad and fruit, snorkelling in clear water at the island's most remote corner, a mangrove ride where turtles sometimes appear, and a final swim at the Piscina Natural among cushion starfish. One reviewer said the stops were perfectly timed and the guide made the day feel special, and another family said it kept all four of them entertained.

Hotel pickup is not part of the package, so transport to the Bayahibe office needs arranging separately, and the operator asks for your hotel name in advance so the team can send timing details.

What To Expect From The Tour

A few practical points make the day easier, from what to pack to how the timing works.

  • Getting there. Hotel pickup is not included in the price. The operator asks you to send your hotel name after booking so the team can pass on timing and meeting information for the Bayahibe office.
  • What to bring. The listing recommends a hat, swimwear, a towel, sandals, beachwear, insect repellent and snorkelling gear. Masks and snorkels are provided, but beach towels are not.
  • Food and drink. Lunch, snacks and drinks including water, juice, soft drinks and rum are all included, along with every entrance fee. Souvenirs, tips, towels and photo services cost extra.
  • Pace and feel. Expect a full nine-hour day with several stops by speedboat. One reviewer praised the organization and said the small group felt like a family.
  • Wildlife sightings. Turtles appear both at the sanctuary in Mano Juan and, with luck, in the mangroves. One reviewer reported a stingray, starfish, turtles and an octopus, though sightings of course vary.
  • Beach time option. The Mano Juan village walk is optional. If you prefer, you can skip it and use that time on the beach instead.

Common issues. The main practical limit is transport: hotel pickup is excluded, so you need to get to the Bayahibe office yourself, and the operator needs your hotel name in advance to send timing details. Beach towels are also not provided, which catches some travellers out. Photo services, souvenirs and tips are extra.
